adam kaser

Seekers® Glass Gallery presents the work of Adam Kaser, who creates a series of original designs in handblown glass. Adam specializes in sea forms. In Adam’s own words; "I am inspired by the natural world that surrounds us. The ocean in particular captivates me. There lies beneath the surface a whole world unlike that which we experience everyday. This world is full of foreign species, both plant and animal, adorned in rich vibrant colors and patterns. I am also intrigued by the traditional vessel form. In much of my work I attempt to find a balance between the natural environment, which is organic, and the functional manmade object. An example of this is a seascape that envelopes a functional vessel, combining the two worlds in a harmonious balance of form and function."

Adam blows each piece freely, without the use of molds, using traditional glassblowing methods that are thousands of years old. He creates each piece at the end of a five-foot long metal blowpipe, constantly spinning and reheating the viscous mass as it has been done for millennia. His work utilizes a combination of blown glass and solid sculpture techniques. He uses many layers of colored glass powders (called frit) to create lines and patterns. His Seascape series involves attaching multiple pieces of glass together while hot on the blowpipe, to create an underwater scene with a traditional vessel as the foundation of the piece.

Adam graduated from The Wellington School of Columbus, Ohio in 1004 and went on to study Fine Art at The Columbus College of Art and Design. He has worked in Glass since 1997 and established his own studio in 2005. He has studied sculpture with Ferdinand Theriot and Scott Darlington and Italian master Dino Rosin at Pilchuck Glass School. He has won "Best of Show " awards at Te Delaware County Cultural Arts Center, Ohio State University and received a scholarship award from Pilchuck Glass School. Additionally, his work has been shown at museums, fine galleries and juried exhibitions throughout the United States.
